Doyin Okupe, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s aide has reacted to the military takeover and the removal of President Robert Mugabe from office.
Okupe commended the Zimbabwe military for the courage to chase the 93-year-old President out of the seat he has occupied for 37 years.
In his Facebook post, Okupe said, “Thank God someone with courage and patriotic zeal finally decides to throw out President Mugabe, the ancient and degenerating relic seating tight on the seat of power in Zimbabwe.
“Although the soldiers claim its not a coup bit what else can it be when a subordinate officer announces the forced incarceration of his commander-in-chief?
“Whatever it is it would have been an exercise in futility if for any reason Mugabe is ever allowed to be seen or speak as president again. A hearty good riddance to bad rubbish.
“Mr. Mugabe has led the southern African country since independence in 1980. Several officials have been held by the military, including ministers of the ruling ZANU-PF.
“Mr. Mnangagwa is said to have landed at an Air Force base in the country to take charge of affairs.”
