Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, has recommended adequate censor and appropriate sanctions to curb breach of ethical standards among television stations in the country.
MSSN Amir in the state, Dr. Saheed Ashafa, made this known in a statement issued to commemorate this year’s World Television Day.
Ashafa in a statement sent to DAILY POST Wednesday morning by the Assistant Public Relations Officer of the society, Miftaudeen Raji, called on government to saddle appropriate agencies with necessary moral re-branding.
He noted that moral decadence was observed to have traversed all segments of our National life, saying the backdrop must be addressed as a matter of urgency.
He said, “In essence, televisions must project high level moral image and intellectually inclined programmes for all round development of the youths.
“Televisions stations must be adequately censored and appropriately sanctioned whenever breach of ethics is committed.
“The media embark on massive value reorientation of the youth through their diverse programmes. As a matter of fact, they should allot more air time to educational programmes that can impart positively in the lives of the youths particularly the students.
“We urge the media to be more civil and committed to philosophy of building as stronger nation and one Nigeria just as we which all media organizations, media personalities and professionals a happy celebration.”
