Jose Mourinho will have to accept a massive pay cut, if he will become the next Manchester United coach.
The Portuguese, who was sacked as Chelsea boss last week, is one of the candidates in pole position to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal is on the brink, after a wretched run of six games without a win – including three successive defeats. It is understood that he could be shown the door, if United loses at Stoke City on Boxing Day.
Mourinho was the best-paid manager in the Premier League, earning £12million a year. But the 52-year-old will have to accept a salary of around £6m a year – currently what Van Gaal earns – if he is to replace the Dutchman at United.
