Mourinho tells Manchester United to end Ronaldo chase

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has told the club’s senior officials to forget about bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo and focus on landing his Real Madrid team-mate, Alvaro Morata.

United had been favourites for Ronaldo, after he apparently told Real that he wants to leave this summer.

However, Mourinho is more keen on Morata, as he seeks a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been released by the Premier League side.

Morata would also be the cheaper option with a £65million price tag, while it could cost up to £175m to sign Ronaldo. Morata is also keen to leave the Santiago Bernabeu during this transfer window, after struggling for game time under Zinedine Zidane.

He re-signed for Los Blancos for £26m last year but only started 14 league games, netting 15 goals.

However, United are yet to make a bid for Morata yet as Real president Florentino Perez revealed to radio station Onda Cero on Monday night .

“We haven’t received offers for anyone this summer,” he said.

“No one has offered us anything – not for Cristiano, not Morata – not James.

“We have a great team and, when the time comes, we will improve it.”
