Mourinho set to replace Van Gaal despite FA Cup triumph

Manchester United is set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

The Portuguese will replace Louis van Gaal, who will be fired by the Red Devils, despite winning the FA Cup on Saturday.

Van Gaal had hoped to see out the last year of his contract, but failure to qualify for the Champions League, has left senior Old Trafford officials, with no choice but to dismiss the Dutchman.

It is understood United chief executive, Ed Woodward, has agreed a deal with Mourinho was agreed and an announcement is imminent.

After United’s win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Van Gaal said: “It is fantastic to win this title for the club, for the fans, and also for me because now I have won the cup in four countries – and not many managers have done that.

“With 10 players – and we have played Tuesday evening also – we deserved it, I think. It was a super goal, eh?”
