Mourinho ready to sell Rooney

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is ready to sell Wayne Rooney, as he plans to shake up his squad.

Mourinho, who has endured a stop-start career as United boss, no longer sees his captain as an important player and wants to make changes in January.

Although he has publicly denied that he wants to get rid of Rooney, ESPN FC reports that the former Chelsea manager, has spoken to the 31-year-old’s agent and asked him to find the player a new club.

It could be even more difficult to move Rooney on, because of his huge wages.

Rooney signed a new deal in January 2014 and the image rights involved are especially lucrative, taking his total pay to well over £350,000 a week.

For him to earn that much, the England skipper would have to join a club in China or MLS.

Mourinho is keen to bring in at least one full-back in the window. He is reportedly interested in Everton’s Seamus Coleman as well as Monaco’s Fabinho. He also wants to buy a commanding centre-back and add pace to his attack.

Next summer however, United will go for Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and make him their number one target.
