Mourinho oversees Manchester United’s worst start to season in 27 years

Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday means that this season is their worst start in 27 years.

The visitors took the lead in the 2nd minute through Diafra Sakho, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalized before half time.

United are sixth on the table with 20 points, 11 behind leaders Chelsea after 13 matches.

It is the first time the Red Devils have gone four home league matches without a win since February 1990.

Manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for kicking a water bottle after Paul Pogba was booked for diving. It is the third time in 20 games he has been dismissed.

His assistant, Rui Faria, who addressed the media after the game, claimed his boss was right to show his anger at referee Jonathan Moss’ decision.

“Everyone saw his frustration was shown in a situation that should be a free-kick for us and finishes with a yellow card for Paul and out of the next match [against West Ham in the EFL Cup],” Faria said.

“There is a reason to express some frustration. We were the best team on the pitch. We didn’t have any tactical issues during the game. The game was what we expected. Defensively we were very compact.

“Offensively we create the chances to win. We are showing that as a team we are a strong side and we can do very good things.

“We create chances that in a normal way should be goals and the game should be comfortable. It is not happening. We get frustrated”, he added.
