Mourinho makes Schurrle his first signing after forward seals £18m move

Andre Schurrle has become Jose Mourinho’s first signing, after Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen confirmed they have reached an agreement over the forward.

“Chelsea Football Club and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Andre Schürrle, subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters including personal terms and passing a medical,” a Chelsea statement read.

The deal was announced, after Leverkusen completed a deal for South Korea international Heung-Min Son from Hamburg, as replacement for Schurrle.

“From the very beginning, we have made clear to everyone that Andre Schurrle’s switch to Chelsea was only viable in connection with an adequate alternative,” the club said.

“With Heung-Min Son, we have now secured that alternative. Therefore, nothing stands in the way of Andre Schurrle’s transfer to England.”

Schurrle scored 11 times last season in the Bundesliga, and has bagged seven goals for Germany in 24 senior appearances.
