Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has claimed that they are close to sealing a deal for Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Brazilian midfielder had undergone medicals at Tottenham Hotspur and the club were confident he would put pen to paper, before the Blues hijacked the move with a late €37 million (£31.6m) offer.
“That’s the danger of medicals before contracts. The best thing to do is do the medical in secret,” Mourinho teased his former protege, Andre Villas-Boas.
When asked if the move for the Brazilian is done, Mourinho replied: “We have to do a medical.”
The former Real Madrid manager has insisted that he wants a 22-player squad, but denied that Juan Mata could be one of those out of the door.
He said: “He is a player we all like, a player we all want to keep. We want more quality, not less quality.”
