Mourinho claims pre-season is ‘fake’

Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, has once again waved aside their 4-2 loss to New York Red Bulls and insisted “pre-season is fake”.

The Premier League champions began their preparations for their new season with a defeat to the MLS club.

Mourinho stated after the game that he preferred the result to a 10-0 win, as it provided them a stern test.

“Pre-season is fake, for good and for bad. If you’re very bad it’s fake, and if you’re too good it’s fake,” the Portuguese coach told reporters.

“The team in the second half couldn’t defend. It was too easy for Red Bulls. Every chance they created was a goal.

“It’s a question of concentration. In the second half we didn’t have the concentration needed to play football”.
