Scores of motorists along the popular Ola-iya junction in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Monday escaped death by the whisker, as an empty fuel tanker collided with a mini-bus, causing panic in the area.
DAILY POST learnt that the break of the tanker failed when the driver was trying to stop for traffic light, which made him to cross to the other side of the road, and in the process ran into a street light pole and collided with an on-coming mini-bus, popularly called “Korepe” in the local parlance.
According to an eye witness,” the driver was so smart to have ran into a street light pole before colliding with that “korepe”, if not, it would have over-run many vehicles waiting for traffic light, which could have resulted to the loss of many lives.
” We also thank God that the tanker was not ladden with fuel, it would have been catastrophic if it was carrying a product like petrol,” he said.
DAILY POST recalls that a similar accident occurred in the state on Sunday, at Ile-ife, where a fuel laden tanker collided with an 18-seater- bus, which claimed the lives of ten people, while two other people are critically injured.
