Motorcyclist stabs security man to death in Lagos

The police in Lagos have arrested a motorcyclist identified as Shehu Sanni, for allegedly stabbing a security man, Ibukun Oguntona, to death in the Okobaba, Oyingbo area of the state.

It was gathered that Sanni allegedly killed the security man when he was stopped at a checkpoint and questioned over his movement in the area.

The 38-year-old Oguntona was said to have been on a night duty on Abeokuta and Lagos streets, Oyingbo, when the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 8 at about 10pm.

Trouble was said to have started when Sanni’s motorcycle developed fault and he was pushing it in the area when the deceased accosted and questioned him on his mission in the area, following the instructions that he must not allow any motorcyclist into the area at that time.

Oguntona was said to have held onto the motorcycle following the refusal of Sanni to respond to his query, this infuriated the suspect who brought out a knife which he used in stabbing Oguntona in the stomach.

The alarm raised by the security man alerted his colleague who rushed to the scene and called for help from residents to take Oguntona to a hospital. He however gave up the ghost on his way to the hospital.

A police source disclosed that the suspect, on seeing what has happened, fled the scene with his motorcycle and the murder weapon but residents of the area fished him out and handed him over to the police at the Denton Police Division.

The source affirmed: “There were two security men in the area. Oguntona was on Abeokuta Street while his colleague was on Tapa Street.

“The security man noticed Sanni coming with his motorcycle into the area, and he stopped him to demand an explanation. Instead of answering, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the deceased. A patrol van from the Okobaba Police Post took Oguntona to the Lagos Island General Hospital, but he died on the way.

“Sanni ran away, but his neighbours, who learnt of what happened, brought him to the police at Denton.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

“The suspect is in custody, while the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Military Hospital, Yaba. The matter has been transferred to the S CID for further investigation,” Nwosu said.
