A woman and her three children were at the weekend crushed to death in an auto mishap in Bayelsa State.
It was learnt that the accident, which occurred in Sagbama local government area of the state threw traders at the popular Adagbabiri junction along the East-West Road into disarray.
The driver of the Highlander SUV, identified as Meeting Mayor, was said to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the traders.
An eyewitness, who identified his name as Kelvin, told newsmen that the deceased woman was having lunch with her children when the vehicle ran into their shop and crushed them.
“The woman was in the shop with her four children. Unfortunately, the woman and her three children have been confirmed dead, while one survived,” he said.
The eyewitness identified the deceased mother as Ruth and gave the names of the children as Favour, nine; Godsgift, five; and Oghenerho (one year-old).
He said the only survivor, identified as T-Girl, was seriously injured and was rushed to an unnamed hospital in the area.
In a related development, a two-year-old girl, Kelechi Favour, was also crushed to death along Osiri Road, Yenagoa.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, alleged that Favour was hit by a driver attached to a local government chairman.
The eyewitness said, “After the chairman finished his visit, the driver while trying to move the car to pick him, drove in a rough and speedy manner and could not control the vehicle when the child suddenly ran into his path.”
However, Spokesman for the State Police Command Asinim Butswat, said the report available to him didn’t mention that the chairman’s driver was involved in the incident.
“On July 31 at about 4pm, along the Mbiama/Yenagoa Road by Osiri Junction, a black Prado jeep with unknown registration number over sped and knocked down one Favour Kelechi, two years old and a female.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital but died a few minutes later,” he added.
