A mother of two identified as Maryam Musa has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Bauchi State for robbery.
Maryam, 27, was accused of being a member of a motorcycle-snatching syndicate nabbed by the Bauchi State Police Command.
The 27-year-old however told the court that she was not involved in the act of snatching motorcycle as she was a widow.
Maryam, alongside other members of the gang were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court VI in Bauchi on charges bordering on robbery.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, in a release yesterdaysaid Musa, Ahmed Zakari and Ashiru Abdullahi confessed to criminal conspiracy and theft of five motorcycles, an offence which contravene Sections 96 and 286 of the Penal Code.
Mohammed stressed that the accused persons were sentenced by the court to six months imprisonment with an option of N10, 000 each.
Mohammed averred, “Another member of the syndicate, Yusuf Karama, was charged with being in possession of stolen property contrary to sections 319 and 40 of the Penal Code. He also pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to two years imprisonment.
“He was, however, given an option of fine of N20,000.”
