Residents of Ajebamidele Street, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital have been thrown into a state of mourning after a 46-year-old mother of three, Mrs Ajibola, allegedly committed suicide in her home along the Street.
The mother of three was alleged to have committed suicide at about 6pm on Tuesday after several attempts in the past failed.
Prior to her death, the deceased was said to had informed landlords in the area of her intention to do a world press conference which was slated for 6.30pm.
Reacting to the incident, a neighbour affirmed, “It was when some of us arrived to listen to what she had to tell us that we discovered that she was nowhere to be found.
“It was when we were searching for her that we saw her dangling body hanging from the roof in her house.”
The neighbour further stated that the deceased was mentally ill and had undergone treatment severally, adding that she had in the past threatened to take her own life.
“There was even a time she said she would jump into the well and we had to announce to all the landlords in the area that they should make sure that their wells were well secured and covered to avoid any mishap,” the neighbour disclosed.
A family member of the deceased disclosed that the corpse of Ajibola has been deposited in the morgue of Mary Assumpta Catholic Hospital, Ajilosun area of the State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, while confirming the incident, said investigation into the incident has commenced.
