Morocco will bid for 2026 World Cup – Pinnick

President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and CAF official, Amaju Pinnick has revealed that Morocco will meet next month’s deadline to bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA said that countries interested in hosting the World Cup have until August 11 to submit their bids, with the USA, Canada and Mexico having already expressed an interest.

Pinnick told BBC, “I’ve been told Morocco wants to put in its bid and CAF will support them 100 per cent.

“I’d be surprised (if Morocco does not put in a bid), but I think they will.”

Moroco was unsuccessful in four previous World Cup bids – in 1994, 1998 , 2006 and 2010.

Another African nation, South Africa staged the 2010 tournament as the continent staged the World Cup for first and only time in its history.

The rotational hosting policy by FIFA means Africa is one of four confederations that can bid for the 2026 finals as Europe cannot be considered.

Pinnick added, “It’s a country that can host the world. They are very hospitable people, there is a good network of roads and have practically everything.

“Morocco has leaders right now who are eager and excited about developing the game, not just in Africa.”
