The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said that it had received a distress call of imminent flood in Sarkin Noma, Ganaja, Lokoja Local Government Area and Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
This is contained in a warning alert by NEMA spokesman, Sani Datti, on Thursday
It reads: “Following the alert, the agency has immediately established contact with the state’s Commissioner for Environment, State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant stakeholders while a team from the agency is due to arrive the state for appropriate action to the affected persons and communities.
“NEMA strongly advises the communities living around the flood plains to immediately relocate to higher grounds for safety to avoid the dan-ger of the imminent flood.”
It would be recalled that the Abuja-Okene highway was on Thursday flooded due to the heavy downpour that happened in the early hours of the day.
The downpour which started at about 5:30 am caused the water at Nataco-Sarki Noma to overflow to the highway.
