Monkeypox: Panic in Rivers, Ondo as parents withdraw kids from schools

There was confusion in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital and Akure, the Ondo State Tuesday morning following reports of the military vaccination in the states.

The incident was replica of what was witnessed in some South East states last week.

It was gathered that when the news broke out Tuesday morning that some soldiers were in the states to immunize children, parents besieged schools in Port Hacourt and Akure to take their children and wards home.

In panic response, parents invaded schools to stop their children from taking the vaccination as the rumours spread that such vaccination is poisonous and causes Monkey Pox.

Just last week, news broke out in Anambra State that men of the Nigerian Army were trying to infect school children in the eastern part of Nigeria with the dreaded Monkey pox epidemic ravaging the country.

The development forced parents and guardians to withdraw their children and wards from schools.
