The Chairman of Bi-Courtney Limited, Wale Babalakin, today failed to honour a subpoena slammed on him by the Federal High Court of Lagos.
Babalakin’s lawyer claimed his client was “too ill” to attend the court hearing. He pleaded with the judge to reschedule a new date for commencement of the trial.
The legal practitioner is accused of helping former governor of Delta State, James Ibori launder money running into billions of Naira in 2006.
His absence means that the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) will have to wait a little longer to arraign him.
The trial judge however granted the appeal and adjourned prosecution of the case till December 12, 2012.
The Federal Government last week cancelled the reconstruction the Lagos-Ibadan expressway formerly in the hands of Babalakin’s construction company, Bi-Courtney Limited, accusing it of poor handling.
The businessman is a holder of the Order of Federal Republic (OFR) and also the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
