Monaco’s sporting director has told L’Equipe that Atletico Madrid forward Falcao will not have a release clause allowing him to go to Chelsea or Real Madrid when he completes his move to the principality this week.
Falcao, 27, is expected to finally put pen to paper on Friday on a five-year contract that, according to various media sources, will contain an agreement allowing the Colombia international to leave the Stade Louis II for either Madrid or Chelsea for the same sum Monaco will pay Atletico.
However, Vadim Vasilyev said: “No, there’s no clause. Radamel really believes in our project. It’s almost done – there are just some details to be finalised.”
Vasilyev, a former Azerbaijan international, added the transfer fee “is less than €60 million” – the widely reported amount that would trigger the release clause in Falcao’s contract at the Vicente Calderon.
L’Equipe reported Falcao’s annual salary would match the €14 million after tax earned by Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 31.
The French sports daily added that 33-year-old Eric Abidal, out of contract at Barcelona, and Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, 27, are also potential targets, with Monaco preparing a €25 million bid for the latter. They have already moved to sign Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez as well as former Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho.
