Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric has opened up on why he has not been playing well for his club since the conclusion of Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Modric, who has produced two assists in 12 La Liga games for Madrid this campaign, said the World Cup has affected his performance for the Los Blancos this term.
Modric captained Croatia to a second-place finish at the World Cup during the summer, losing 4-2 to France.
The 33-year-old also won the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament.
“After the World Cup, it is logical that mentally you cannot keep the same rhythm, there is a lot of intensity in little time and you pay for it,” Sport360 quoted Modric as saying at a pre-match press conference ahead of Croatia’s Nations League clash with Spain on Thursday.
“At the World Cup, everything went perfectly we were all at a great level and after it has been difficult to keep the same level.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid will tackle Eibar in their next La Liga fixture on November 24.
