It was a sad end for a suspected criminal who allegedly stormed some streets at the suburb of Calabar, the Cross River State capital for stealing valuables belonging to residents and estimated at several thousands of naira.
The suspects who were four in number stormed the area on Sunday and stole some valuables belonging to the residents.
The people, it was gathered, teamed up and chased the suspects, captured one of them burnt him to dead.
“The incident happened at Edim Otop main market at the early hours of the day (Sunday) and the mob rudely sent their victim to hell,” a source told DAILY POST.
The victim whose name was not known at the time of filling this report was among a gang of four-man criminal group who always stormed the area and robbing the residents door-to-door.
“In the act, the residents summoned courage and went after them this time,” the source told our Correspondent.
“Three of the criminals made their way through the crowd and escaped, while the unfortunate was later battered and burnt to death by the mob,” he said.
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Igbo confirmed the incident, saying some suspects have been arrested in connection with the lynching.
“We are on top of the situation. Four suspects have been arrested and investigations are ongoing. Immediately it is concluded, we shall charge them to court,” she said.
