It was a day of reckoning for a suspected thief in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as luck ran out on him in the process of raiding a shop.

DAILY POST gathered that the suspect, simply identified as Illiasu, on Friday at about 2:30pm invaded a supermarket at Jeremia Usani Junction, Gwagwalada, a suburb of Abuja, with his accomplice.

They were said to have successfully stolen about N500, 000 and were about taking off with their motorcycle when a female sales attendant raised the alarm.

Although his yet-to-be-identified accomplice fled, Illiasu fell off the motorcycle and an irate mob pounced on him.

The Kogi State indigene was beaten to a pulp before he was handed over to the police.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Gwagwalada, CSP Jimoh Gbenle, told DAILY POST that the suspect was in police custody.

“Investigation is ongoing and he is assisting the police with information on how to apprehend the fleeing member of the gang.

“The money was recovered from the suspect,” Gbenle added.
