Ministerial clearance: Dickson urges state lawmakers to make case for Lokpobiri

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has appealed to National Assembly lawmakers from the state to close ranks and work to ensure the successful screening of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, a ministerial nominee from the state.

DAILY POST reports that Lokpobiri, who hails from Ekeremor local government area of the state, is one of the ministerial nominees who will be appearing before the Senate on Tuesday, October 20.

Dickson made the call when Bayelsa lawmakers under the aegis of National Assembly Caucus Forum paid him a condolence visit over the recent passing away of Chief Diepreye Alamieseiyegha.

He urged the lawmakers to always commit themselves to the unity and progress of the State.

The governor reminded them that the progress and development of Bayelsa was paramount regardless of party affiliations or personal interest.

He expressed his resolve to collaborate with representatives of the state at the national level towards accelerating the pace of development in the state.

Dickson lauded the National Assembly lawmakers for partnering with the state government with a view to actualizing its vision, stressing that the development of the state was a collective responsibility.

On the death of Alamieyeseigha, the Governor described the late former governor as one of the foremost Ijaw leaders, whose demise has created a vacuum in the political life of the Ijaw nation.

He however admonished the people of the state to take solace in the Lord, saying that one cannot query God, because He giveth and He taketh.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State National Assembly Caucus Forum, Senator Foster Ogola had described Chief Alamieyeseigha as a political colossus, who laid the foundation for the development of the state.

Recounting Alamieseiyegha’s achievements while he was Governor, Senator Ogola said the late leader represented the voice of the Ijaw people across the country and protected their interest.

Senator Ogola, who represents Bayelsa West in the Senate, disclosed that a motion has been moved to formally notify the National Assembly of Chief Alamieyeseigha’s death.

He said that a minute silence was observed in the floor of the House in Alameiseiyegha’s honour and promised to participate in the funeral ceremony for the departed leader.

Highpoint of the visit was the signing of the condolence register by members of the Assembly.
