Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has assured workers in the state of his administration’s readiness to pay the N30,000 Federal Government-approved minimum wage.
The governor disclosed this during the commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday.
Akeredolu, who spoke at the Gani Fawehinmi Arcade, venue of the event, emphasized that the minimum wage is not enough to cater for workers’ needs, but his government will ensure that workers are paid the new wage.
While noting that payment of the minimum wage is non-negotiable, he lauded the workers, particularly civil servants for the support given to his administration.
“This government will pay minimum wage as approved by law.
“Your salary, your minimum wage is non negotiable. Your welfare is paramount to us.
“You cannot work without taking your wages.
“What you have as take home cannot even take anybody home, it is not even certain that N30,000 can take you home but wherever it carries you, we will pay.”
Meanwhile, as regards outstanding salary arrears and leave bonuses in the state, the governor promised to pay the workers as soon as possible though without a specific time frame.
