Mimiko to meet lawmakers over impeachment of Speaker, Deputy

Following the impeachment of the Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Jumoke Akindele and her Deputy, Hon. Fatai Olotu, the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko has invited the lawmakers to an emergency meeting.

Eighteen out of the 26 lawmakers carried out the impeachment, which was done around 10 pm yesterday night at one of the residence of their colleagues.

It was also gathered that the majority leader, Hon. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu was also removed.

They were said to have carried out the act because the principal officers were becoming the stooges of the governor.

It was learnt that the aggrieved lawmakers were not satisfied with the way their issues were been handled by the governor.

One of the lawmakers said “We have no official cars, no quarters and we are being owed some months of salaries. Our people are on our necks, should we go and steal to satisfy the masses?

“It is only the speaker and the deputy who have official cars, quarters and enjoy more benefit from the governor”.

However, the news of the impeachment was said to have shocked Mimiko as it was believed that all the lawmakers were his stooges.

A source from the government house said “Oga was shocked with action of the lawmakers. You know Mimiko was in Abuja for PDP NEC meeting and we never believed the lawmakers could set a coup for him before he arrives.

“He will be meeting the lawmakers this morning and I hope the lawmakers reverse their action in order to prevent political crisis in the state.”
