The Ondo State government has released one of its newly completed mega primary schools in the state, St James School, Ile-Oluji to the management of the newly established Federal Polytechnic located in the town.
The mega primary school, by the state government’s arrangement, will serve as the temporary site of the polytechnic, pending the completion of its permanent site.
The state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, while speaking during the official release of the school to the Polytechnic in Ile-Oluji, noted that the possession of the school and its infrastructure would subsist until the Polytechnic was ready to surrender it.
He added that the decision to convert the Mega school to the Polytechnic’s temporary site was taken by the State government to meet the accreditation criteria and take-off time of academic activities at the institution this year.
Mimiko assured that the state government would build another mega school for the pupils of the school, in order not to be deprived of access to quality education in a conducive environment, noting that the relocation was just temporary.
According to him, the concept of mega school was to create a new educational infrastructure from the primary school level which is the foundation, and breed new set of students that will be globally competitive and outstanding.
He said “this is one of the 51 Caring Heart Mega Schools that our administration has put in place across the state. One of the challenges that we have is the time to commission them. But I want to plead with my pupils in this school that by the grace of God, we are going to build another befitting structure for them.
“Our mega school concept is to create a new education infrastructure that will make our pupils globally competitive. We have determined to give them the best quality education right from the foundation,” Mimiko added.
He lauded the two former ministers of education, Mr. Nyesom Wike and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau for their efforts towards the establishment of the Polytechnic.
In his speech, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Adedayo Fasakin, who thanked Governor Mimiko for his commitment to the swift take-off of activities in the institution, assured of mutual cooperation and relationship between the institution and the host community.
He noted that the provision of the temporary site by the Ondo State government signified the commencement of academic and other activities in the school.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the State commissioner for education, Mr Jide Adejuyigbe explained that the implementation committee set up by the State government in collaboration with the community representatives had enjoyed tremendous support from the people.
