Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has lost his bid to represent Ondo Central Senatorial at the National Assembly.
Mimiko who contested the senatorial seat under the platform of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP after dumping his presidential ambition polled a total 56,628 votes to come a distant third in the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The incumbent senator representing the district, Tayo Alasoadura of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 58,092 votes also lost out to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ayo Akinyelure who was announced as winner of the election with 67,994 votes.
The result was declared by the Returning Officer for the election, Prof. A. B Bello at Saint Peters’ Unity Secondary School, venue of the collation centre.
In 2015, Akinyelure who represented the district in the red chamber of the National Assembly was defeated by Alasoadura.
