Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army, Friday, intercepted armed robbers at Panbegwa in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two of the robbers.
Items recovered from the robbers according to a press statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the division, Colonel Usman Abdul include; 1 Toyota Hilux with Registration Number ABC 101 HM, a Pump Action Rifle with 14 Rounds of live cartridge, sum of three hundred and ten thousand Naira (N310,000:00) cash and a Handset.
He called on the right owners of the recovered vehicle, handset and money to come forward with genuine proof of ownership and report to the headquarters of 1 Division for identification and collection.
He disclosed that troops of the division had intensified operations code named Operation “SHARAN DAJI” in the North-West and part of North Central States, stressing that the operation was targeted at flushing out criminals, especially armed bandits and Cattle Rustlers that had been terrorizing rural communities.
“The General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj Gen Adeniyi Oyebade on his operational assessment of some of the areas of operations commended the effort of the troops so far. He emphasized on the protection of human rights and strict adherence to the rules of engagement,” the statement explained.
According to the statement, on the overall assessment of the operation, the General Officer Commanding explained that since the commencement of the operation over 6 months ago, a lot of successes had been recorded against those he termed misfits and vowed not to relent on its oars until all the bandits were completely eliminated.
He said hundreds of cattles had been recovered, while many bandits had been killed or arrested and several bandits’ camps also destroyed.
On their general welfare, the GOC assured the troops of their welfare noting that their barracks accommodation problem were already receiving attention as funds had been released by the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai to carry out a number of renovations.
The GOC also commended the efforts of the police, the DSS and local vigilantes, who are jointly working with the Nigerian Army.
