Military Task Force arrests notorious gun runner in Plateau


The Special Task Force (Operation Safe Haven) saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace in Plateau State, on Wednesday said it has arrested a notorious gun runner in the State.

Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Captain Ikedichi Iweha, in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos, said it has arrested one Nanbong Sambo Maidoki for gun running in the State.

It reads, “The OPSH wants to put members of the general public on notice of its arrest of a notorious arms dealer and kingpin.

“Nanbong Sambo Maidoki alias (NSK), evaded arrest by personnel of OPSH in September, 2013, where 2 AK 47 riffles were recovered from him in an abandoned vehicle.

It added that, Maidoki who has been on the wanted list of security operatives in connection with arms running on the Plateau, was arrested at a hotel in Langtang North Local Government Area of the State, on 18th June, 2016, following extensive intelligence tracking.

“He tried effortlessly to escape again, but was apprehended.”

The statement further explained that, “A search in his house and his Toyota Highlander Jeep vehicle with registration number AJ 174 RSH, revealed neatly concealed under the back seat, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), Tube launcher, 1 RPG bomb and 1 RPG bomb charger; all military styled weapon and ammunition.

The statement reiterates OPSH’s readiness to respond to any act of criminality and all forms of threat reported to it promptly and assure residents of their safety.

It solicits for timely and accurate information from members of the public, assuring that any of such information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
