Military, police saved Rivers election – Nwuche

The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche has stated that the Nigerian Military and the Police force lived up to expectation in ensuring that election was properly held on December 10, in Rivers State.

Nwuche, who spoke in Port Harcourt, said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, improved its process by organizing a credible election that gave victory to both candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Nwuche also noted that the security agencies- the Army, Police, Department of State Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence were professional in maintaining security during the exercise.

He said that the presence of the military in the election encouraged the electorates who came out to exercise their franchise.

He stated that the December 10th rescheduled election further buttressed the fact that the APC had millions of loyal supporters in Rivers state.

According to him, “The heavy security presence enabled voters to come out en mass to vote as opposed to the past elections where they were intimidated and many murdered in cold blood. Many of us spoke up and urged the federal government to secure the lives of our people.

“I am happy the Federal government is now addressing the security situation more aggressively.

“The law enforcement agencies are not only focused, but appeared to understand the sophisticated and organized crime pattern better. They saved the election. The presence of the Army ensured that people were able to vote according to their conscience.”

While commending the doggedness and determination of the Rivers South-East Senatorial Candidate of the APC, Magnus Abe, Chibudom Nwuche condemned the murder of a police DSP during the election.
