Mikel’s return major boost for Super Eagles

The return of Super Eagles skipper, Mikel Obi, to action after an injury that sidelined him for four months has handed Gernot Rohr a major boost ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.

Obi featured in Tianjin Teda’s 2-0 defeat at home to Hebei CFFC in the Chinese Super League on Monday.

A goal in each half from Ezequiel Lavezzi condemned Tianjin Teda to their 12th defeat of the season.

The defeat dragged Tianjin Teda into the relegation zone with nine games left to play to end the season.

They remain second from bottom of the table on 15 points, just a point ahead of rock-bottom Yanbian Funde.

Prior to his return, the 30-year-old’s last game for Tianjin Teda was in their 2-0 victory over Chongqing Lifan in April in the Chinese Super League.

Mikel has made four appearances for Tianjin Teda and has scored one goal.
