Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has included captain John Obi Mikel in his squad, for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon next month.
CompleteSports reports that Rohr will make his 28-man squad official this week, with five players on standby.
The German is ready to drop Girona striker, Kayode Olanrewaju, as he has not played much this season. Kayode joined Manchester City last week and got loaned out immediately to La Liga newcomers Girona, for whom he played only a few minutes in their season-opening draw with Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Also expected to miss out are Victor Osimhen, Maroof Yusuf and Kenneth Omeruo, whose future at Chelsea is uncertain.
The players expected in the squad include goalkeepers Dele Alampasu, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi, who was heavily blamed for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier home defeat to South Africa in June.
Other players are Tyronne Ebuehi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Shehu Abdulahi, Chidozie Awaziem, Odion Ighalo, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and John Ogu.
Anthony Nwakaeme, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi are also expected to be in the squad.
Henry Onyekuru, Uche Agbo, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ibrahim Alhassan are expected to be placed on stand-by.
