Middlesbrough will play in the Premier League next season, after a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed their return to the top flight.
Boro began the game in second place on 88 points, level with Brighton and with a better goal difference. Aitor Karanka’s men only needed one point from the match at the Riverside, to take the second automatic place alongside Burnley.
Cristian Stuani opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but Brighton equalized in the 55th minute through Dale Stephens.
Four minutes after his goal however, Stephens was sent off for a reckless challenge on Gaston Ramirez.
Middlesbrough return to the Premier League, seven years after they suffered relegation.
