‘I smell war.’
‘Which war?’
‘A war in Nigeria.’
‘When?’
‘Anytime. The smell is choking.’
‘Which smell?’
‘Of blood. Of death. Of disunity. Of doom.’
‘I smell peace. I smell a new era. The death of the old and the entry of the new.’
‘What is the new?’
‘The new are those who know what is good for our country?’
‘There is no new in Nigeria. The assumed new is made of the old. The old in our lives would never make us move forward.’
‘What is the way out? Complain and talk wouldn’t do anything.’
‘The way out is for the people to make a radical choice. We have to look for someone outside the political scheme of things. Someone different?’
‘What is wrong with the ones we have?’
‘Which ones?’
‘PDP.’
‘That is a death party. Their continuous presence wouldn’t lead to the country’s movement. It is a party of touts and mad men. How can a party leading the country engage in childish battles? Different sections popping up and pointing fingers at each other and punching each other’s eyes out like garage boys. Nothing from these people can be good.
‘How can the inconsistency of one single party lead to war? What about APC and other parties? ’
‘APC is owned by one man. He controls and tells his boys what to do. He controls their thoughts. Tells them when to shit and piss. There are no other parties. APC is only looking for a way to own the country too. ’
‘Are you saying there are no people out their willing to bring Nigeria out of this bleeding mess?’
‘There are. But, Nigerians don’t like good people. We like criminals. As a matter of fact, we celebrate them. Imagine, some fools want an Al Mustapha and Alamieyeseigha candidacy for 2015! I can’t fathom that. The other day, some people, were celebrating Ibori’s birthday and one pastor called him a role model. Are we not doomed?
‘Please leave pastors out of this. Talk not about the anointed.’
‘Anointed or not, they have a role to play. Don’t forget that the church and the state function together. But the pastors’ sights have been collectively blinded by the pursuit of prosperity and private jets. They know these politicians steal but they continue to pray for them. They see what is going on but shut their mouths. What do they care? After all, every Sunday comes offering and tithes.
‘Please, as a born again and an optimist, I beg you to leave the pastors out of this.’
‘They should be talked about. They need to be held accountable too.’
‘Are they members of the parties raping the nation?’
‘Some of them are.’
‘Can you give me a name of one?’
‘I can’t.’
‘Why?’
‘He is your pastor. He owns over three private jets. You know him.’
‘I’m not talking about any pastors. The bible says…’
‘This house may fall if we don’t do anything about it. The United Nations said in 2015 Nigeria would be a failed state. Signs of this show up daily.’
‘It won’t fall in Jesus name.’
‘That’s another thing.’
‘Jesus name?’
‘The fact that we expect divine intervention and sit on our lazy buttocks hoping that some kind of holy wind would wipe away our bad dreams. Instinctive conformity and holding onto the unknown is what Nigerians know how to do best. We are too quick to conform to anything thrown at us because those fear of the unknown. ’
‘What would your negativity lead to?’
‘I’m stating the fact.’
‘And, what is the fact?’
‘This house may fall.’
‘It took America over three hundred years to get to where they are. It took France over a hundred years. How old is Nigeria? How old? Common. I believe we would get there. I strongly believe.’
‘My friend, the reasons why these countries you have mentioned got there is simple. They had visionary leaders. Leaders who looked at the present situation and knew that their nation’s tomorrow depended on the kind of plans the constructed today and they assessed present situations to avoid calamitous future for the next generation . Abraham Lincoln saw a free America. Tell me which Nigerian leader can give you a ten-year plan or twenty-year plan?
‘Fashola of Lagos state and Oshiomole of Edo state are the only ones I can think about.’
‘And what are the ten-year plans?’
‘I am not a member of the party, how do you expect me to know?’
‘Because they should be preaching about it every day and we should have been seeing it by their actions.’
‘Don’t you see and hear about what they do? The house shall not fall.’
‘With the present way these buffoons in PDP engage in muddy fights and word battles, I see a failed state emerging. These people have forgotten about governance. They care less about the people and pay attention to power maintenance. They care less about Nigeria’s image. We have no selfless leader. None. What a shame!
‘What is the way out?’
‘You and I know it. You and I know it.’
