MFM FM striker, Stephen Odey, has admitted that he is hurt by his exclusion from the Super Eagles squad to play South Africa, in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on June 10.

Odey was left out of Gernot Rohr’s 23-man squad for the game in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The leading goal scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), was dropped along with his team-mate, Sikiru Olatunbosun, after they both featured against a Corsica XI in Ajaccio last Friday.

“Naturally, when a player is dropped from a team to play a game or tournament he will feel bad,” Odey told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“But such is life. I will work harder on my game and prove that I deserve to be part of the team.

“Yes it hurts, but there are so many games still to play by the national team in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. I’m also certain that the team will also play one or two more friendly matches still this year.”
