Metuh’s Armsgate Case: N400m was paid into his account – Witness

The trial of Olisa Metuh continued on Wednesday with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, calling on its fourth witness to give her testimony in relation to the ongoing matter.

The prosecuting counsel, Slyvanus Tahir called on the fourth witness, Eno-Mfon Effiong who is a staff of Diamond Bank to present before the court documents from the EFCC requesting for the account opening details.

Effiong who is the Customer Relationship Manager of Diamond Bank said she also attends to customer’s request, packaging credits facilities, and managing customer’s account.

She informed the court that she managed Destra Investment Limited account from Feb 10, 2014 when it was opened.

Effiong explained to the court that on 24 November, 2014, the sum of 400m was paid into Destra account owned by the embattled spokesman from the office the National Security Adviser.

She told the court that prior to the payment into the account, there was “over N6m in the account and that Destra operated 5 accounts.

“Before the case, Metuh demanded for his bank statement and it was delivered to his house,” she said.

The defence counsel, Emeka Etiaba, however, objected to some of the documents presented to the court by the prosecuting witness, saying that the letter tendered before the court was not related to the statement of the witness.

He further argued that the witness is not the maker of the documents presented and as such can not testify in the matter. On this ground, he urged the court to “discountenance the documents tendered as well as the witness.”

Etiaba also urged the court to “discountenance ” some of the documents as it falls short of requirement of Section 84 of the evidence Act.

Responding to the defendants objection, the prosecution urged the court to dismiss the objection for lack of merit, saying it was misleading the court. This was upheld by trial Judge, Justice Okon Abang.
