Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has disclosed that he is not thinking about winning the European Golden Shoe this season.
Messi stated this while speaking to reporters on Friday ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey final against Valencia on Saturday night, Metro UK reports.
The Argentine captain is set to win the Golden Shoe for the highest goal scorer in the Europe top five league competitions after his nearest challenger, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe fell short.
Mbappe could only score once, as Paris Saint-Germain ended their Ligue 1 season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Stade de Reims on Friday.
Mbappe’s consolation goal means he ends the season with 33 league goals, three behind Messi in the race for the Golden Shoe, which given to the top scorer in Europe through a ranking system.
“I am not thinking about the Golden Boot,” Messi said.
“I am still recovering from what happened in Liverpool and I do not think about personal trophies.
“I just want to finish the year with another title [the Copa del Rey].”
