Messi scores 500th career goal

Lionel Messi netted his 500th career goal on Wednesday night, as Barcelona humiliated Valencia 7-0 at the Nou Camp, in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

This tally includes 433 with Barcelona, 49 with Argentina’s national team, and 16 with his country’s youth teams.

The Argentine captain grabbed his 499th goal for club and country before half time, before scoring two more to complete his hat-trick in the second half.

Luis Suarez also scored four times, as Barca inflicted more misery on Gary Neville’s team.
