Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, will miss the next three weeks with a groin injury, which he picked up during their 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.
The Catalans were leading thanks to Ivan Rakitic’s goal, when the Argentina captain dropped to the pitch in the second half.
Messi had appeared to be struggling since he came out after the interval and he was eventually replaced by Arda Turan. Angel Correa scored the equalizer almost immediately.
Barcelona have now confirmed that Messi suffered a groin strain.
The La Liga champions also lost Sergio Busquets to injury during the match. He was replaced by Andre Gomes.
Messi was unavailable for his country’s recent 2018 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, after injuring his groin againt Athletic Bilbao in a league game in August.
He returned to action in the 2-1 loss to Alaves and has since played 90 minutes against Celtic and Leganes.
