Lionel Messi has not put pen to paper on his new Barcelona contract, the club’s vice-president Jordi Mestre has revealed.
Messi has since agreed a deal in principle to extend his stay at the Nou Camp and Barca released a statement, announcing that he will pen his new contract when he returns from pre-season training.
However, the La Liga campaign starts this weekend and nothing is yet signed.
Mestre says that Barca are not panicking, as a date should be announced in due course.
“It is all agreed and we are waiting for a date for the signing. Everything is in place, with just the signature missing,” Mestre said.
“Leo’s renewal is something we are totally clear about and we have worked on it for a long time.
“Everything looks very good and I would be very surprised if the signing didn’t happen.”
