Lionel Messi became the all-time highest goalscorer in La Liga, after he netted a hat-trick in Barcelona’s 5-1 mauling of Sevilla on Saturday.
The Argentine forward now has 253 goals in the Spainish top flight – two more than former Athletic Bilbao forward, Telmo Zarra.
Messi opened the scoring in the 21st minute to equal Zarra’s effort, before two further goals in the second half, to confirm a new record.
Barcelona’s victory also means they were now within two points of leaders Real Madrid, who crushed Eibar 4-0 earlier in the day.
