The chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning, Senator Barnabas Gemade, has described as misinformation, statements credited to Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State that he promised to serve for only one term as senator when he was elected in 2011.

Gemade, who represents Benue North-east in the senate, is determined to return in 2015, a seat Suswam is interested in.

The lawmaker, who spoke through his legislative aide, Bob Jija, said the remarks about him are not only a “misrepresentation of facts”, but also “irresponsible, callous and immature”.

Gemade said Suswan was living in a fool’s paradise for saying that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not giving any automatic ticket to senators when he was not in attendance at the meeting held on the November 6 between the PDP senators, the president and the national leadership of the party.

On allegations that the governor claimed Senator Gemade promised to serve only one term in the senate and that there was local arrangement for him to be elected a senator, Gemade said: “Suswam also failed to mention or state the date and time Senator Gemade promised to serve as senator for one term in 2011, the circumstances that led to such a promise and who were witnesses to such a promise”.
