Men in court over alleged assault, breach of peace

Five men were on Thursday docked at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting and stabbing one Solomon Dosa.

The five men are: Solomon Daniel, 42; Babatunde Luton, 33; Mautin Wheto, 39; Emmanuel Wheto, 39, and Michael Hunsu, 34.

The defendants, whose addresses are not provided, are facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 21 at about 12 noon at Itoga community in Badagry.

Nkem said that the five men unlawfully assaulted Dosa and stabbed him with an object, causing him bodily harm.

“The defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace,” he added.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 244 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Aug. 28 for mention, NAN reports.
