Memorial Service turns sour as cannons kill pregnant woman in Delta

The 11th Memorial Service of prominent community leader, late Chief Richard Kenairu Alerebo has gone sour as cannons shot at the event has killed a pregnant woman, Mrs. Ese Edewor in Ujevwu community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Daily Post can report.

An unidentified woman also survived the incident which claimed the life of her neighbor.

Following the death of the death of deceased, the event was brought to an abrupt end as the police allegedly arrested one of the children, Obruche Kenairu of the late chief in whose honour the celebration was held. It was gathered that the twenty-six-year old pregnant woman was taking her bath in a makeshift bathroom outside their compound when the shrapnel’s from the cannon pierced her stomach and she died instantly on Saturday.

A neighbor to the deceased who craved anonymity narrated the incident to DAILY POST, stressing that another woman who was also waiting to have her bath in the same bathroom survived the ugly incident.

A Police source at the Ovwian Police Division in Udu confirmed the incident saying, “one of the children has been arrested.”

The Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Andrew Aniamaka could not be reached for comments as efforts to reach him for confirmation were unsuccessful as he did not pick or return calls.
