More reactions have continued to trail the ongoing war between, Senate Committee Chairman on Women Affairs, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and her counterpart from Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye, with the latest coming from the Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa, COWAA who have berated the latter over his refusal to apologise for his utterances.
Reports had surfaced on Tuesday last week that Melaye during an executive session of the Upper Chambers had allegedly threatened to beat up and “impregnate” Mrs Tinubu, wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Tinubu.
Melaye’s threat sparked reactions across the country where many demanded he apologise to his colleague. But he refused, saying “great minds don’t dwell on issues; they act and move on.”
But COWAA in a statement by its Executive Vice President, Jummai Samuel said Melaye’s refusal to apologise to his counterpart was an indication that the Kogi West senator belong to the group of undesirable breed of men that belittle women which is contrary to the global trend of promoting gender equality.
According to COWAA, “It is now glaring why the issue of rape and violence against women are treated with levity since a federal lawmaker could threaten to use rape as a weapon of retaliation against a female colleague whom he felt insulted him.
“Even if his colleague, Senator Oluremi Tinubu had offended him, the Senate has Rules he could have used to seek redress without resorting to the caveman approach he adopted.”
