Meadow Hall Consult, a subsidiary of Meadow Hall Group hosted Educamp 2017, themed ‘People, Purpose & Passion: The Pathway to Success’ at Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos from August 30th – 1st September, with numerous members of the education sector within and outside Nigeria in attendance.
Educamp is an annual, 3-day residential training programme targeted at all members of the education sector, and it provides a conducive ambience for key educational stakeholders to network and share ideas on the best education practices. Teachers enthusiastically arrived to take part in a vast array of courses, such as ‘Critical thinking and problem solving’, ‘Emotional intelligence,’ as well as specific courses to improve their productivity and that of the students, such as ‘Creating an outstanding classroom’, ‘Effective use of data for teaching and learning’, ‘alternative discipline methods for high school students’ and much more. The classes were vibrant and extremely engaging, with the speakers leaving room for dialogue with the intrigued participants.
In addition to the classes on hand, the participants were also able to listen to the inspirational keynote speakers such as GMD/CEO, Meadow Hall Group, Mrs. Kehinde Nwani, Group CEO, Prima Garnet, Mr. Lolu Akinwunmi and Principal Consultant/CEO, Leading Learning Ltd, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo. They persistently touched on the theme of the programme, asking the participants what their ‘Passions’ are, what their ‘Purpose’ is and how they interact with ‘People’ and build relationships. Mrs. Nwani and Mr. Akinwunmi both spoke about the importance of teachers educating their students ‘ethically as well as academically’. Mrs. Adefisayo spoke on the massive influence teachers have on their students as ‘leaders’. She continued, ‘a teacher’s impact on society is everlasting, so it’s important to take your leadership role very seriously’.
Meadow Hall Group is passionate about the holistic development of children. They are committed to raising excellent, Godly and well-rounded children who will attain their full potential and use their skills and knowledge to affect their nation positively. However, they understand that key to this process is developing teachers to be the best they can be in all aspects. This being the 9th edition of the Educamp is further proof of this commitment. As part of the highlights of Educamp 2017, the winner of the Inspirational School Leaders Awards 2017, Mrs. Remi Tanimola, of Army Children Senior High School, Ikeja and the winner of the Inspirational Teachers Awards 2017, Mrs. Odueke Abiodun Kafilat of Station Junior Grammar School, Iju were invited to share their inspirational stories with the participants. Both spoke to the participants about their experiences as teachers, and the sacrifices they made to ensure continuous development. They encouraged teachers to be interested in the total development of their students and take the education of their students beyond the class room.
The Educamp came to an end with a final word and prayer from Mrs. Kehinde Nwani, who thanked the speakers, tutors and participants for their hard work over the 3 days, and stressed again the important role teachers have to play in the success of society and our great country as a whole. She charged all participants to use education as a tool for societal development.
