MBRM threatens to occupy EFCC office for failing to prosecute indicted persons in Benue

A group, the Middle Belt Renaissance Movement, MBRM, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to commence prosecution of those indicted by the Justice Kpojime Commission of Inquiry in Benue State.

MBRM has threatened to shutdown the Abuja office of the anti-graft agency by Thursday, citing failure of the commission to begin the trial of 52 persons allegedly indicted by the Commission of inquiry.

Speaking to newsmen in Makurdi, the state capital, the National Coordinator of the group, Kuanum Terrence, pointed out that the action would be aimed at calling the EFCC into action to commence the prosecution of those whose names appeared in the black book.

He explained, “We are bothered that after the report of Justice Elizabeth Kpojime Commission of enquiry which indicted former Governor Gabriel Suswam and 51 persons for allegedly looting Benue State treasury was submitted to the EFCC, the matter has been swept under the carpet.

“We have resolved to occupy the head office of the commission in protest over their inaction and after 72 hours, if they still fail to commence the prosecution of those indicted.”

Meanwhile, a former Senior Special Assistant to the immediate past governor, Gabriel Suswam, Job Tsegha, has reacted to the protest, describing it as belated, adding that a Makurdi High Court had recently in a ruling, threw aside the report of the commission of inquiry.

He said, “I am not sure the MBRM is conversant with the developments in Benue State because the Kpojime report has already been quashed by a Makurdi High Court.

“The whole thing was a witch-hunt so they should get their facts right.”
