Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has warned Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe not to join Manchester United.
Arsenal have had a £78million bid rejected for the 18-year-old Frenchman, while United’s opening bid in May was also turned down.
But Petit advised Arsenal to press on, insisting “Mbappe is the leader of this generation”.
He warned that the young talent may be dumped by Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho, making reference to how Anthony Martial did not get enough playing time last season.
Martial became the most expensive teenager in world football when the Red Devils doled out £36m for him in 2015.
In a chat with talkSPORT, Petit said: ”I would love it (for Mbappe to join Arsenal). I remember two years ago we had almost the same example as Martial.
“Martial was very good the first months with Manchester United and since Mourinho has managed the team he’s not in the same position anymore. It’s a risk.
“Talent is something very important in football but you need to have confidence as well from team-mates and your manager.
”You have to be tough and strong in your mind.”
