The Assistant Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State, Mr. Musa Maza, in a bid to sanitise the system, has warned that any Immigration Officer found to be corrupt would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Maza made this known during a meeting with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Bala Hassan.
The Immigration boss also noted that the agency was willing to go into partnership with the police so as to free the state of terrorist attacks.
He affirmed, “Corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deeply into our fabrics as a nation. It is my resolve to completely purge my officers of all corrupt practices in line with the anti-corruption campaign of the present administration. I will fish out the bad elements, and flush them out of the system.”
Maza called on the police to work with the agency by sharing intelligence and information regularly, adding that the collaboration between the security agencies will help foster a good relationship and protect lives and property.
While speaking, the AIG said the police were currently working on improve their image.
He disclosed that the police in trying to flush out corruption from the system had dismissed two policemen after they received marked notes as bribes.
Hassan appealed to Nigerians to report any police officers demanding bribes.
He further promised to distribute pamphlets containing the contact details of Divisional Police Officers and Commissioners of Police in the zone.
He said, “I have particularly instructed my officers to eschew corrupt acts and abuse of human rights. Soon, everybody will have access to the phone numbers of their DPOs and CPs to make reporting of these cases easier.”
The AIG also resolved to synergise with the NIS so as to secure the state from terrorists attack.
